Rent Help Available Through PA Housing Finance Agency

The PA Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) has financial assistance available for renters who were financially impacted by the Covid-19 Pandemic.  Renters who have had a decrease in income can apply for rent relief through September 30, 2020.  Renters and Landlords are able to fill out an application for rent relief at PHFA.org.

In order to be eligible for rent relief, a renter must have had at least a 30% decrease in annual income since March 1.  The decrease in annual income must be related to Covid-19 or must have become unemployed after March 1, 2020 with the same 30% income loss.  The Pennsylvania Housing and Finance Agency will verify a renters unemployment status with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.  If a renter qualifies for assistance a renter can receive an amount equal to 100% of their monthly rent up to $750 per month.  The benefits can be applied for up to 6 months.

If a renter qualifies, payment will be made to the landlord on behalf of the renter by the PA Housing and Finance Agency.  A landlord or renter can apply for the relief; however, both parties are needed to complete the application.   For assistance, you can access the PHFA website, through the link above, or call their helpline at 1-855-827-3466.  The Pennsylvania General Assembly has funded this program in the amount of $175 million.
