Bononi & Bononi, P.C.

A Unique Niche for a Unique Partnership

Advertorial

In 1985, two young professionals with lofty dreams and boundless determination opened a legal and accounting firm in a small, rented storefront in Greensburg. The fledgling business had one secretary and an old memory typewriter.

Now, Bononi & Bononi, P.C., a partnership of Eric and Michele Bononi, serves roughly 1,000 individual and corporate clients per year; employs three accountants, three attorneys, and three support staff members; owns a Greensburg office building strategically located across from the courthouse; and runs the firm using state-of-the-art computer technology.

The firm's impressive success is due in part to the fact that Eric and Michele, who married in 1985, have the knack for successfully blending seemingly disparate elements. Bononi & Bononi is first and foremost a family firm, emphasizing good, old-fashioned personal service. The practice is rooted in tradition. Eric's father was a CPA, and his uncle had the first CPA practice in Greensburg. But at the same time, the Bononis, who stress continuing education, are flexible enough to change with the times.

Their interactive website at www.bononiandbononi.com is a perfect example.

Even the partners' experiences are complementary. Eric, a native of this area, has an innate understanding of the needs of local clients. Michele, who grew up in New Jersey, brings to the firm a more urban background and a woman's point of view. Together they strike the perfect balance. The professional roster is further enhanced by associate Elizabeth J. McCall, who studied at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and practices in the area of family law.

Michele Bononi is a highly accomplished trial attorney who graduated magna cum laude from Seton Hall University and holds a law degree from Ohio Northern University. She is a recognized leader in the area of family law and a member of the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Westmoreland Bar Associations. Since 1996, she has been a hearing officer for West-moreland County's Domestic Relations Office and has presided over more than 3,000 cases. Michele knew from the time she was a child that she wanted to be a lawyer, and that goal helped her overcome a speech impediment. She has never lost that drive.

Eric is not short on drive, either-as evidenced by the fact that he holds both an accounting degree from the University of Notre Dame and a law degree from Ohio Northern. This has allowed the couple to successfully blend two professions, creating a unique practice that offers a full range of both accounting and legal services. This is a tremendous benefit for clients, who can visit just one office for two such critical needs. Eric also has the distinct honor of being a U.S. Bankruptcy Trustee, a government position requiring an exhaustive FBI background check.

The Bononis are devoted to community service. They donate countless hours and significant funds to local groups too numerous to mention, and somehow find time for professional activities as well. Eric, a member of the Pennsylvania and Westmoreland Bar Associations and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, sits on the board of 1st Summit Bancorp and teaches at both the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and Westmoreland County Community College. He is also a member of Excela Health's Hospital Foundation Board and the Greensburg Rotary. He will soon be installed as board president for the Westmoreland-Fayette Boy Scout Council. Eric is also a trustee of Dante Aleghieri, an Italian-American organization, and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.

Michele sits on the board of Laurel Legal Services and is also its treasurer. She also serves on the board of Westmoreland Case Management (a county program focused on mental health and mental retardation). For the Health & Welfare Council, she is both vice president and a board member. Michele is a past president of the Westmoreland Drug & Alcohol Commission and has served on the board of the Alzheimer's Association. She received the Community Service Award from the Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce in 2003, and supports its Prayer Breakfast every year. Michele sits on the board of the Greensburg Rotary and is actively involved with the Girl Scouts, YWCA, and Westmoreland Trust, as well as the Heart Association, Cancer Society, and local hospice programs.
